Monday, July 24th. I was able to finally get on the internet the past night, so I spent quite some time last night and this morning uploading pictures. There still are a ton more to send, but it is slow going. Here, there was no rooster to greet me - just the sounds of the nearby neighbors. This is much more of a city, and I was near several small houses. Still, no one with a WIFI access point! (no coneccion de internet!) I still woke up early, around 6:30AM. I had forgotten my alarm clock, so Willy set his cell phone to wake me up at 8:00. But, my good friend played a nasty trick on me, and set the phone for 7:00 instead of 8! I still was up when it went off. Juni, the lady whose house I was at, took me to Sarita's house at 9:00AM. Here Elaine, Scott, and I met for breakfast. Eggs and sausages, all mixed together. Sarita's husband Justo showed us several intstruments, including one he made (like a marimba). He played a 10-string guitar called a Cuatro (like a 12-string, missing one pair). He also brought out a keyboard (which I messed around with), and we all had fun playing and singing some songs (in spanish, no less!) After some prayer, we left. We stopped by the Plaza de Bomberos, where there were a lot of souvenir shops. We were there for a couple hours. We saw an old fire department that was another historical site. We then went to the beach. The water was nice and warm, but had a lot of seaweed in it. Most of us went in. Had a lot of fun, as I haven't done this in quite some time. There were some hot dominoes games going on at the beach also, where Patty beat Willy's father. Poor guy! :-) Had a little snack at a cafe there, then we said our goodbyes to the Irizarry family. We left Ponce, and headed back toward San Sebastian. We stopped by a Sizzler restaurant for dinner, where everyone had a poor meal except Patty. Apparently the only thing they can cook correctly is fish! :-) We checked back in at our respective casas, and then met in Chetto's house (where I am) to see the videos he had taken. Chetto has been our driver for the majority of this trip, and he had a little cam-corder with him that he had been using. He had 3 tapes worth of material! We saw the wedding and reception, and a few other highlights of other trips. Most of us were pretty tired from the day's activities - Patty fell asleep within the first 5 minutes! I stopped by my house to do some stuff, then went to meet Willy. He had promised me some dessert following our video. When I got there, he was already in bed! I got cheated out of food! :-) I didn't get his phone either, so wasn't able to get on the internet. Got to bed around 12AM. Tuesday, July 25 ================ Woke up to the distant sound of roosters - someone really needs to do something with these animals! haha Got up around 7AM, and arrived at Willy's house for breakfast at 8. We needed to get an early start to go to the caves. We left for Aguadilla, a fairly large city with some unique caverns. We visited Camuy National Park Caves from the river Camuy. We went on a guided tour down several hundred feet into the cave named Clara, where we saw a river that flows undergound. It is one of the 3 largest underground rivers. This was one of over 250 caves in PR! We saw a natural spring, bats, a couple large spiders, and interesting stalagmite and stalagtite (?) formations. Was pretty wild! We then went to see Scott's friend that ran the auto shop. Today was a holiday in PR (anniversary of something like the founding of Puerto Rico), but he was still working. He was a very interesting guy that works on race cars - reprogramming the computer and tweaking the engines for better, faster performance. We asked him for a recommendation for a restaurant, which we arrived at about 15 minutes later. This ended up being a VERY fine restaurant. I had Chicken French, which was very good. Patty had some other dish, which ended up tasting exactly like mine! Willy had the Mufongo, which he enjoyed as well. This took some time, but we left here around 3PM. We went to the beach at Aguadilla, where the water was a little cooler, but clearer. I tried dancing with Patty in the water! We came home around 5:30, and washed up. Had a few more games of dominoes, and shiskabob for dinner. We went out for some ice cream in town, and ate it in the little town square area close by. Isaac and Justo (the guy that sang in the wedding) made up some music, which we captured on camera. http://bobpuff.com/pr/100_0964.MOV Came home, and finished this BobLog for yesterday and today. Going to bed at midnight. Pictures will be coming!
