The BobLog, Thursday, January 15, 2004.
Early this morning, mom went to the demonstration on how they made the
unique little decorations in the buffet. She came back with one
of their creations! This is all made from fruits and
vegetables. Can you guess what parts are made from what?
We docked in Costa Maya, Mexico later in the afternoon.
We were
right next to a Norwegan Cruise Lines ship. Ironically, this was
the same ship that my friends from Canada were on, and I had made the
comment that our ship was bigger than their ship. Now, they were
side-by-side, so you could see that I was right! :-)
I wanted to check out the snorkeling, and managed to snag a spot on the
list for this. I had never done this before, and this seemed like
the perfect time. I met up with the group just off the pier, and
they took us by bus to another port, where we took a boat to the area
where we were to explore.
The snorkeling was definitely an adventure. I'm not used to
having stuff in my mouth, and it took me a while to get used to the
tube. I spent probably 80% of the time ABOVE the water,
breathing. heh. I did manage to get some time viewing the sea,
and it was very beautiful. Sorry, no pics, as my camera wasn't
exactly waterproof. I had forgotten to take off my watch, but it
survived the 80 minute swim time without failing.
Once back to shore, I did some more looking around at the various
shops. There was a guy who was painting using mostly spray cans
and forms. He was doing some amazing work!
More natives doing their thing in the center of the shopping area:
I happened upon my Canadian friends Valerie and Maggie, who saw one of
the country music stars that was on their ship. I took their
picture (looks like my camera lense had some water on it! bummer)
There was a ton of jewelry stuff here in this place:
Donkey, anyone?
Time was a slippin' away, so it was time to head back to the
ship. Here you can see our boat in the rear.
We ate, and I went to see a musical entitled, "Shake, Rattle &
Roll" - music from many different time periods. Good stuff!
Time for bed!
